Go to Koh Chang from Bangkok – Easy guides
There are several ways to go to Koh Chang from Bangkok. You can choose to go either by bus, by plane, or by car to Trat Province and take the ferry to Koh Chang depending on your convenience. You want to get the fastest way or you want the cheapest way, which will decide what suits you the best.
By Plane
You can fly to Trat Province (Trat airport) from Bangkok, then take the ferry from Trat to Koh Chang. The flight schedule varies with a duration of 1 hour. All flights to Trat are operated by Bangkok Airways, you can book via their website.
After arrival at Trat airport, you can hop on minibuses to get transferred to Koh Chang. The price including ferry tickets is around 500 THB per way. Bangkok Airways also run a minibus service for passengers. The bus schedule will coincide with the flight schedule to make sure you are late enough to catch the latest ferry to Koh Chang and the earliest flight from Trat Airport.
Tickets for minibuses can be purchased at the airport or online.
By bus
Going to Koh Chang by bus is a very cheap and popular way. You can go to Ekkamai (Eastern) Bus Terminal and take the #999 bus to go to the piers to Koh Chang in Trat where you can take the ferry to the island. The cost is 260 THB per way and The bus schedule is 7:45 and 9:00 every day. Total travelling time is 5-6 hours
You can also depart from Mochit Terminal (Northern Bus Terminal) and catch the #9908 bus. This bus can also be caught at Ekkamai Terminal as well. The price and the travelling time are similar to the #999 bus, but this bus only takes you to Trat town. From here, you will need to take a Songthew to go to the pier to take a ferry to Koh Chang.
Another option is that you can catch the Cherdchai Private bus with first-class service and an air conditioner. This bus departs from the Ekkamai terminal at 23:30 and arrives at Trat town at 5:00 the next day. This would help you have a lot of travelling time.
The last option is to catch the VIP bus from Khaosan Road which departs at 8:00 AM and arrives at the Laem Ngop pier at 15:30. The Price is 450 THB including the ferry fee/ person.
By car
You can also drive your own car if you have one. The ferry is big enough to carry you and your car to the island. This is the best choice because I can visit the whole island within 1-2 days. The total travelling time is 4-6 hours. You can expect high congestion of vehicles on the ferry, especially at the weekend or on public holidays.
By minibus
Another great way to go to Koh Chang is by minibus. It is easy to make a booking online with several companies like Koh Chang Minibus. You can search for many options on Google, The expected price will be from 950 THB – 1200 THB/ person including ferry fees. They can pick you up at your hotel in central Bangkok as well.
Except for Bangkok, you can go to Koh Chang directly from Suvarnabhumi Airport with two options.
The first one is to take the ‘Lonely Beach Express’ officially known as the Koh Chang Suvarnabhumi Burapha Bus. This bus will bring you directly to Lonely Beach in Koh Chang. You can request to stop at any hotel along the way to its final terminal. Departure times are 07:50, 11:00, and 14:00 which will coincide with the ferry schedule so that you can catch the last ferry to Koh Chang. The price is 600 THB/ person with the ferry fee included. You can catch this bus on the ground floor of the airport. Booking service can be made at Entrance 8 on Level 1 of the airport terminal.
The second one is to catch Government buses which depart from the airport bus station at 08:20 and 10:20 in the morning. You will need to take a shuttle bus to the airport bus station from Entrance 5 on Level 1 of the airport terminal. The ticket for the Government buses is around 250 THB/person
Last but not least, you can go to Koh Chang from Koh Samet and Pattaya via private transfer or minibus. The tickets can be found in all travel agencies in Koh Samet and Pattaya. The cost is around 600 THB – 800 THB/person.
There are 2 piers to go to Koh Chang in Laem Ngop named Ferry Koh Chang (Ao Thammachat) and Centerpoint Pier (Centerpoint Ferry). However, the more popular one is Ao Thammachat with a price of 120 THB/car/way and 80THB/person/way. Meanwhile, the Centerpoint ferry takes 80 THB/person/way and is free of charge for the car.
The operation time of both piers is from 06:30 to 19:00, every 45 mins to 60 mins.
