Wat Hong Thong – a temple by the sea near Bangkok
Located on the coast between Bangkok and Chon Buri province, Wat Hong Thong is famous for its special location and unique setting. This temple is known as Wat Klang Nam, which means the temple over water in the Thai language. As its name suggests, the temple was constructed over the water which promises to offer you a nice view of the sea and a tranquil state of mind.

How to get to Wat Hong Thong?
You can simply drive along Sukhumvit Road in your car or motorbike along Sukhumvit Road.
To reach the temple you will drive through a fish farming area. In this area, the local people dry and sell the fish and shrimps along the way, so you can feel a very unique smell.
Unfortunately, there is no public transportation to this spot. As a result, going by car or motorbike is the only option.
What to expect in Wat Hong Thong?
Coming to Wat Hong Thong, you are offered a tranquil moment and a nice view of the sea, and great temple architecture.
The location of the temple also makes it famous to local visitors. It seems to be the only temple by the sea in Thailand. If you come here during the high tide season, you can feel like the temple is floating on the water.
Inside the temple, there are many Buddha statues for visitors to pay their respect to on the first floor. At the entrance, you can donate some money to get flowers and incense to worship the Buddha, and a bowl of coins to do the ceremony of almsgiving. On the second floor are a wax replica of Phra Mongkhon Thepmuni and a replica of the Emerald Buddha. Additionally, there are paintings of the old and currents Thai Kings and royal family members on the second floor as well. The third floor is home to a golden stupa with a hall underneath allowing people to visit inside. In the hall, there is an altar with the world’s first Arhats’ relics hosted. This makes the place more religious and spiritual.
Additionally, the spot gives you an ocean vibe with the tinkling of hundreds of bells hanging around the temple. As such, the peaceful view and sound make the temple a perfect place for reflecting and relaxing.

As the place is famous to local people, you should expect many people at the weekend. They come here to pray, worship, and ask for good luck, so most of them will buy a lottery ticket when leaving the temple.

Wat Hong Thong opens from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day with no entrance ticket required, so you can come anytime you want.
What to pay attention to?
As the temple is a religious place, I would advise you to wear modest clothes. Moreover, do remember to bring your sunglasses and a hat, and sunscreen on to avoid sunburn.
