Nicely sit by the Chao Praya riverside, Wat Arun is known as a remarkable identity of Bangkok. Wat Arun was built in Ayutthaya time with its original name as Wat Makok after the name of Village Tambil Bangmakok- the Village of Olives. Later, Wat Arun is named after an Indian God of dawn-Aruna. As such, Wat Arun is also called The Temple of Dawn.

How to get to Wat Arun?

There are many ways to get to this place. You can come here by taxi, motorbike taxi or tuk-tuk.

If you want to drive on your own, you can drive a motorbike or your own car to here. Also, you can take BTS to Sapan Taksin station and take a boat of 15 THB fee to go to Wat Arun.

What to expect in Wat Arun?

The first thing you can expect in Wat Arun is the unique Khmer-style tower with a height of 104 meters. The temple is decorated with a number of bits of porcelain used as ballast by Chinese boats. Also, there are 4 small towers surrounding the main prangs, which create a perfectly balanced structure of the place.

Additionally, there are many other attractions in this temple such as Giant statues, Buddha statues, Bell Tower, and the stupa encrusted with gorgeous seashells and porcelain tiles.

The second attractive spot of Wat Arun is its charming view of the Chao Phraya River and its surroundings. Located by the river, Wat Arun looks straight to the river. You can easily see traveling boats moving along the river and life on the opposite bank. Moreover, the central balcony of the temple offers you an amazing view of the Grand Palace and the Temple of Emerald Buddha.

The third thing to get in Wat Arun is the tranquillity. You will feel relaxed and emerge in the peaceful atmosphere, especially in the afternoon. If you fail to visit Wat Arun during day time you can enjoy its charming beauty at night from restaurants on the opposite riverside.

When to visit Wat Arun?

Wat Arun opens from 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM, so you can visit the temple anytime you want. However, the recommended time to come here is around 4:00-5:00 PM when the sun gently shines and sets. This place required an entrance fee of 100 THB per person. Please avoid wearing shorts or tank tops, if not you will be required to buy cloth to cover your body before entering the temple.
