What is Loy Krathong Festival?

Loy Krathong Festival is celebrated on the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month in the Thailand Lunar Calendar. As such, it usually falls in the second half of November. This festival is held to mark the end of the rainy season. Also, it is the perfect time for Thai people to show their respect to the water spirits. The ancient Thai people believe that the river brings them food and wealth. As a result, the river is called Mae Nam (means Mother Water).

At this festival, people will pay their tribute by casting small rafts (Krathong) with flowers, candles, and incense sticks on the rivers all over the country.
