Is it worth trying a dinner cruise on Chao Phraya River?
If you have visited Thailand, you may not miss the chance to chill in a cafe or restaurant along the Chao Phraya River. And of course, you may see many luxury cruises moving along the river with live music and a party vibe.
In this post, I would like to share with you my experience on one of the dinner cruises on the Chao Phraya river.
My cruise is Alangka Cruise which departs from IconSiam piers (See map) at 6:30 PM every day. It includes a 2- hour buffet dinner along the Chao Phraya river, a live music show, and a cabaret. As the departure time is 6:30 PM, the latest time to check is 6:15 PM in the cruise office in IconSiam near the pier. You can ask the information counter officer, they will show you how to reach the cruise office.
Upon check-in, you will get your ticket indicating your pier, table number, and stickers to stick on your left-hand side.
A welcome drink is served to unwind and ease into the night as soon as you enter the cruise. On the cruise, you have the chance to enjoy an international buffet and the charming beauty of the river at night from the deck.
The cruise passes by Asiatique The Riverfront and Wat Arun (the Temple of Dawn). These are two must-visit spots in Bangkok. After that, it comes back to IconSiam to return the guests.
For me, the food is not really special and delicious. It is a mixture of Thai food, seafood, simple sashimi, sushi, and dessert and fruits. Most of the seafood is cold and old. However, I think I cannot expect much with the price of 790 THB/pax (for the weekend). In case you want to take some drinks, they are available for purchase on the cruise.
The live music is good. You can also ask them to prepare a special thing such as a cake or a song for your beloved’s birthday or special occasion. The cruise facility is a bit old and the light is not bright enough, so it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. Luckily, the rooftop is so nice for me to enjoy the stunning view. As a result, the uncomfortable in the cabin is not a big deal.
Overall, the cruise is good for chilling along the river at night, but not too much. This is one of the good experiences for me. From my heart, the cruise is only recommended for first-time visitors in Bangkok.
