10 amazing things to do in Bangkok – make your trip unforgettable!
I would say I wasted 1 month in Bangkok in 2013 because I did not know many things to do in Bangkok. For now, after more than 2 years of living in Bangkok, I wish I had known about those activities to do on my previous trip to this beautiful city.
To help you not waste your precious traveling time deciding on what to do, this post will briefly give you amazing things to do in Bangkok.
1. Explore Bangkok attractions
Bangkok is well-known for having hundreds of temples and tourist attractions. As such, what’s a miss if you skip visiting those places on your trip. The highlight attractions of Bangkok include Wat Arun, Wat Pho, Jim Thompson House, Grand Palace, etc.. If you do not have much time to visit a lot of places, make sure you put the aforementioned spots on your Bangkok attraction bucket list.
Places to visit in Bangkok:
A tip when visiting Grand Palace is that there are many scammers who try to manipulating you that the Grand palace is closed to upgrade you to a private tour. Our tip is that do not trust anyone telling you that the place is closed, reach to the main gate and get an official ticket from there.

2. Shopping at local markets
Shopping at local markets is one of the incredible things to do in Bangkok. There are 6 must-see markets in Bangkok which are famous among the locals and foreigners including Chatuchak market, Jodd fairs, Chinatown market, Bobae market, Klong Toei, and Pak Khlong market.
Chatuchak is famous for selling cheap clothes, gadgets, animals, and street food. It opens during the weekend.
Chinatown market is somehow similar to Chatuchak market, it has all types of goods that you wanna find ranging from clothes to street food.
Jodd fair is the new name of Ratchada Train Night Market. It is well-known as a great night market opening from 5 PM. You can easily find cheap clothes, excellent street food, and interesting stuff in this market.
Bobae Market is considered a heaven for those who would like to do business on clothes. It offers clothes at wholesale price.
Khlong Toei Market is a local fresh market that sells fruits, seafood, vegetables, and all kind of meat. This place is always really crowded and wet, so make sure you prepare for this before coming.
Meanwhile Pak Khlong market only sells flowers. It is easy to get some flowers at a reasonable price here.
If you do not have a lot of time, visiting only the Chatuchak market is worth it and enough.
3. Eat Thai Street food
Enjoying the street food is one of the amazing things to do in Bangkok because of its variety of food, great taste, and cheap prices. With only 1 dollar, you can easily get a meal. Moreover, you can find great street food everywhere. It is a pity if you missed out on trying Somtam (papaya salad), Pad Thai (Thai Fried noodle), Mango sticky rice, and Tomyum Kung.
Even though it is easy to grab delicious food everywhere, we highly recommend you to try it in Chinatown or Pratunam area. If you don’t like eating on the street, eating in restaurants is a good choice and provides you with the best experience with authentic Thai food.
4. Chill out at green parks
Connecting yourself to nature is one of the interesting things to do in Bangkok. There are many green parks in Bangkok, but the highlight ones are Lumpini Park, Benjakitti Part, Rod Fai Park, and Suan Luang Rama IX Park. All those parks allow you to bring your own bike inside and some of them provide bike rental service at the gate if you want to enjoy the green vibe on a bike. If you don’t have enough time to visit all the parks, Lumpini park is be highly recommended.
5. Explore Bangkok at night in a rooftop bar
Nothing is better than going to a rooftop bar to enjoy the city view at night and merge yourself with great music. There are lots of rooftop bars in Bangkok, but their views are quite similar.
One of the ideal places to visit is the bar in Mahanakhon Building – the highest building in Thailand. They offer both foods and drink starting from 1000 THB. If you think the experience is worth the price, visiting this place is one of the worthy things to do in Bangkok.
If you are a high-budget traveler, and you want to enjoy the view in a luxury bar, The Dome at Le Bua hotel is a worthy place. From here, you can enjoy both the city view and river view. They offer cocktails and food starting from 750 THB.
If you are a mid-range budget traveler, Red Sky at Centara hotel in Central World may be a perfect match for you. Food and drinks are offered from 650 THB.
If are a bit on a tight budget, but still want to enjoy a drink and the city view at night, Seen at Avani Hotel and Octave in Mariott Hotel are the best choice. you can get a drink starting from 280 THB.
6. Put your credit card on fire in some high-end shopping malls
If you are a shopaholic, you must never skip luxury shopping malls such as Icon Siam, Siam Paragon, Central World, Emquatier, and Central Embassy. These places have everything you want: clothes, footwear, and many more. If you don’t want to buy anything, window shopping is interesting too. You can also visit some famous but less expensive malls such as Pratunam and MBK. You will be surprised with what you can buy at a very cheap price.
7. Party all night in Khao San Road
Party people may never want to skip this activity as one of the best things to do in Bangkok. Khao San is a lively and vibrant area with many hotels, hostels, bars, and restaurants. This place is very popular among young travelers and backpackers. Also, it is a great place to meet up with other travelers from all over the world. Trust me, this activity will bring you so much fun and unforgettable memories.
8. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere along the Chao Phraya River
After shopping and partying, you can treat yourself to a hop-on-hop-off river cruise to enjoy a summer breeze and tranquil atmosphere along Chao Phaya River in the afternoon. The ticket is around 150 THB/ person depending on how many stations you want to stop with no food and drinks offered. Hopping on this cruise, you have a chance to see the charming Bangkok in the sunset.
Moreover, if you want to enjoy dinner, live music, and sunset over the Chao Phraya river, there are tons of cruises for you to choose. We used to take the tour from Alangka Cruise, but the experience is just so-so, so we don’t highly recommend it. However, if you really want to try, the Chao Phraya Princess Cruise in Bangkok is worth trying as my friend give it a lot of good review.
9. Try King of Fruits – Durian
Durian is one of the favorite fruit in Thailand. As such, we would say you haven’t been in Thailand if you never try to eat durian. This fruit is considered King of fruit due to its distinct smell. To be honest, I really love this fruit, but it’s hard to say if everyone will love it due to the odor. If you can pass the odor gate, then an amazing taste of the fruit is waiting for you to try.
10. Treat yourself a massage
What is better than a massage after a long day of wandering here and there. There are tons of spas and massage shops for your to try with the price starting from 250 THB per hour. The popular massage is Thai massage, but you may have many other options such as foot massage, neck and shoulder massage, and even oil massage..
Another massage recommendation from our end is Health Land massage chain. The price for a massage in Health land is a bit high, but the service quality is worth it. You can take a 2-hour Thai massage around 600-700 THB. Trust us, it is worth trying without and regret.
