Calathea Orbifolia is one of my favorite plants. Its green leaves make me feel really relaxed and fresh on hot summer days. Calathea Orbifolia is considered a “Prayer plant” as its leaves moving up and down during different times of the day. In this post, let’s go with me to see how we take care of this plant for its best performance.

Calathea Orbifolia is a perfect choice for indoor decoration

Light

Calathea Orbifolia loves medium light or low light, so you can place it on your decoration shelf or your working table.

Watering

This plan loves humidity. You can fairly regularly water it to keep its roots moisture, but not wet or soggy. Overwatering will cause root rot and dry leaves. If your garden’s air is too dry, consider buying a humidifier to avoid the leaves crisping.

Perfect growing medium for Peacock Plant

A perfect growing medium for Calathea Orbifolia is the mixture of well-drained materials such as coconut coir or rice husk, perlite, and soil. Coconut peat should be added to retain the soil’s moisture.

You can make your own growing medium with 40% of rice husk or coco coir, 40% of coco peat, and 20% of vermicompost or soil. You can add perlite to improve the drainage of the growing medium.

Fertilizing

Calathea Orbifolia needs fertilizing monthly or water-fertilizing their leaves every week to keep their leaves healthy and green. Organic fertilizers such as vermicompost or weak fertilizers are the best choices because strong fertilizers make their leaves scorch.

Propagation

You can propagate Calathea Orbifolia by root division. Once the plant grows, new shoots appear out of the soil in their own sections. When you see the sections established, your plant is ready for division. You can divide the plant at its roots into several plants and grow them in pots in the growing seasons (normally in spring)

Re-potting

Re-potting Calathea Orbifolia once a year in the growing season (normally in spring),

The difficulty level of taking care: 3/5
